The international sports community honored J.J. Watt in Monaco last week.
Watt received the 2018 Laureus Sporting Inspiration Award for his humanitarian efforts after Hurricane Harvey devastated Southeast Texas last fall. The three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year raised a staggering $37 million in less than three weeks to help flood victims in Houston and surrounding areas.
The Laureus World Sports awards honors the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen across all sports each year and seen in more than 160 countries.
A Media Nominations Panel from more than 100 countries selects the award nominees. The Laureus World Sports Academy then votes by secret ballot to determine the award winners.
"As athletes we have a great platform," Watt said. "People all over the world watch us, they follow our every move. We need to use that for good. We need to use that to help change the world for the better. "
The NFL also honored Watt with the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year award on Feb. 3.
