Jadeveon Clowney out for OTAs

Jadeveon Clowney did not practice for the second consecutive week of Texans OTAs (organized team activities). The two-time Pro Bowler will likely miss the remainder of the team's offseason workouts, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

"I wouldn't say he'd be in any OTAs, probably training camp," O'Brien said Wednesday.

While O'Brien did not disclose details surrounding Clowney's absence, he did say the he was not concerned about the fifth-year veteran pass rusher missing time in OTAs.

"I think he's doing ok," O'Brien said. 'He's in there with the medical team trying to get better. He's in the meetings and things like that and I think he's progressing."

The Texans defense, ravaged by injuries last season, is getting healthier. Whitney Mercilus and Christian Covington returned to OTAs last week after suffering season-ending injuries. J.J. Watt is currently still rehabbing from his October surgery for a tibial plateau fracture in his left leg.

In 2016, Clowney set single-season career highs in sacks (9.5), quarterback hits (21), forced fumbles (two), fumble recoveries (two), total tackles (59). He also finished second in the NFL with a team-high  21 tackles for loss while starting all 16 games.
