8 Key Notes about Training Camp, Day 13 | Harris Hits

hh day 13

The Texans finished their trip to Ohio with a "sprint through" practice at the University School in Hunting Valley, OH.

Okay, what is a "sprint through"? No pads, limited physical hitting, yet performing at full speed instead of walkthrough speed.

So there wasn't much in the way of Harris Hits, but there was a solid 5-minute red zone 7-on-7 period that accounted for Harris Hits today.

1. The first play of the 7-on-7 period was highlighted by a DIVING Derek Stingley Jr. QB C.J. Stroud threw a quick out to the opposite side of the field and it looked like a completion, but Stingley Jr. darted in front to knock it away.

2. I'm getting to the point that I'd just like to bubble wrap Sting the Merciless to get ready for the season. He has been BALLIN' OUT lately.

3. Then, C.J. hit back hard. He ripped one to the back of the end zone to WR Tank Dell for a touchdown. I'm not going to say it looked just like the post route for the game winning TD against Tampa Bay last year, but I'm also not going to say it didn't. That was pretty.

4. Since he's come back from an early injury in camp, CB C.J. Henderson has made some plays during practice. He came up with a PBU on a throw from Stroud to FB Andrew Beck. The Texans FB circled up between Henderson and the LB and Stroud dotted him, but Henderson exploded in front for the breakup.

5. S Jimmie Ward followed that up with a forced incompletion on the final play of that series and CB D'Angelo Ross then made one on a throw to WR John Metchie III on the first play of the new series. I've seen Ross make a number of plays since he returned to practice a couple of weeks ago. He's been one of the more underrated dudes in camp thus far.

6. QB Davis Mills lasered one to TE Dalton Keene right at the goal line for a TD. That ball was hummin' on its way to Keene.

7. QB Case Keenum then threw a TD to RB British Brooks on the one and only play of his drive. Brooks had to reach out and snatch the throw away from his body, but he did for one of his better catches in training camp.

8. Finally, QB Tim Boyle RIPPED his best fastball over the middle to Metchie III for a TD. That ball was smoke through a keyhole and Metchie III snatched the rock for a touchdown, one of his strongest catches throughout training camp.

I'd love to go longer, but that really was all there was to the last day in Ohio.

It still was good work and it was a good chance to stretch the legs, run around a little bit without beating the bejeezus out of everyone. So that's it from Ohio. We'll take the bus to Pittsburgh on Thursday and the Texans strap up against the Steelers Friday night.
