Tuesday afternoon saw a disappointing end to the 2013 Texans' campaign for a pair of high-profile players. Running back Arian Foster was placed on the injured reserve with a back injury, while safety Ed Reed was released.
Foster missed the Arizona game because of his back, and he injured it during the first series of the Sunday night loss to Indianapolis. Two weeks before that, in Week 7, he exited the Kansas City game in the first quarter.
Heading into the loss to the Chiefs, he'd gained 531 yards in the first six weeks. He carried four times for 11 yards at Arrowhead Stadium. In his final appearance, he didn't record a rush, and was targeted once in the passing game. The 542 rushing yards is his lowest output since 2009, when he was a rookie. It will be the first time in his five-year NFL career that his season was ended by injury.
Reed, meanwhile, was inactive in Week 1 and Week 2. He returned to face the Ravens in Baltimore in Week 3. The former Raven played in each of the next six games, and finished with 21 total tackles before his release today. The 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year signed with the team as a free agent in late March.
