The season wrapped up a week ago on Saturday for the Texans.
The players cleaned out their lockers the day after, and several scattered across the country, while others remained in Houston. Bill O'Brien and the coaching staff worked on analyzing the 2015 season, and along with the scouting staff, are getting ready for the NFL Draft.
The next time the Texans coaches and players, with draft picks included, get together will be in OTAs in mid to late May. Between now and then, here are some key dates to remember, courtesy of nflcommunications.com.
TODAY: Deadline for college players that are underclassmen to apply for special eligibility. A list of players who are accepted into the NFL Draft will be transmitted to clubs on January 22.
1/23/2016:East-West Shrine Game, Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida.
1/23/2016:NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, StubHub Center, Carson, California.
1/30/2016: Senior Bowl, Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Mobile, Alabama.
2/8/2016:Waiver system begins for 2016.
2/16/2016: First day for clubs to designate Franchise or Transition Players.
2/23/2016 TO 2/29/2016:NFL Scouting Combine, Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana.
3/7/2016 To 3/9/2016:Clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2015 Player Contracts at 400 p.m., New York time, on March 9. However, a contract cannot be executed with a new club until 400 p.m., New York time, on March 9.
3/9/2016:Prior to 4:00 p.m., New York time, clubs must submit qualifying offers to their Restricted Free Agents with expiring contracts and to whom they desire to retain a Right of First Refusal/Compensation.
3/9/2016:Prior to 400 p.m., New York time, clubs must submit a Minimum Salary Tender to retain exclusive negotiating rights to their players with expiring 2015 contracts and who have fewer than three accrued seasons of free agency credit. Top-51 Begins. All clubs must be under the 2016 salary cap prior to 400 p.m., New York time All 2015 player contracts expire at 400 p.m., New York time. The 2016 league year and free agency period begins at 400 p.m., New York time. The first day of the 2016 league year will end at 115959 p.m., New York time, on March 9. Clubs will receive a personnel notice that will include all transactions submitted to the league office during the period between 400 p.m., New York time, and 115959 p.m., New York time, on March 9. Trading period for 2016 begins at 400 p.m., New York time, after expiration of all 2015 contracts.
3/20/2016 TO 3/23/2016:Annual League Meeting, Boca Raton, Florida.
4/18/2016: Clubs with returning head coaches may begin offseason workout programs.
4/22/2016: Deadline for Restricted Free Agents to sign Offer Sheets.
4/28/2016 TO 4/30/2016: 2016 NFL Draft, Chicago, Illinois.
5/6/2016 TO 5/9/2016:First weekend after the NFL Draft: clubs may elect to hold their one three-day post-draft rookie minicamp from Friday through Sunday or Saturday through Monday.
