On the Texans third possession of the game yesterday, Nick Novak went deep.
The veteran kicker drilled a 53-yard field goal to give the Texans a 17-3 lead over the Titans. It tied a career-long for him, and he was extra-animated after splitting the uprights.
"Very happy," Novak said. "I told somebody I was going to make the next 50-plus yarder. That's
something I've really worked on. I take it one kick at a time and I'm just ready for that next kick against the Vikings."
Novak also connected on a 45-yarder later in the second quarter, and converted all three of his point-after-tries as well.
On the season, he's made 9-of-11 field goal attempts and all six extra point tries.
Even though he was charged up after the 53-yarder, he said he needs to play it cooler next time.
"I celebrated quite a bit on that one and I've got to try and stay even-keel and move on to the next kick," Novak said.
Novak and the Texans will face the Vikings in Minneapolis next Sunday at noon CT.
