Food, farmers markets and football, anyone?
Linebacker Brian Cushing and wife Megan teamed up with Underbelly chef Chris Shepherd to kick off farmers market season with a live cooking demonstration at the Urban Harvest's City Hall Farmers Market on Wednesday.
The market included a number of local vendors, including Angela's Oven, Blackbird Foods, Melange Creperie and Sinfull Bakery. Inside the Underbelly tent, the Cushings and Shepherd prepared a dish in front of a crowd of spectators strolling the City Hall promenade for their lunch hour.
Before the demonstration began, Cushing admitted to being a tad inexperienced in the kitchen.
"He is a good friend and a good customer, and he is one of these guys who is like, 'I just want to cook,' and so we've been talking about him learning more and more about how to cook personally, and so it just seemed like it made sense," Shepherd told Houston Press.
Shepherd and Cushing decided on a healthier salad dish, containing cauliflower, broccoli, radish, Korean rice sticks and a homemade mayonnaise.
Urban Harvest's City Hall Farmers is open from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. every Wednesday for the spring season at 901 Bagby.
