The decision on whether the Texans' starting quarterback and starting running back will play Sunday against the Jaguars won't come until pre-game warm-ups at ALLTEL Stadium.
Both David Carr and Domanick Davis did limited work in practice Friday and head coach Dom Capers said that it's too soon to make a definitive decision on either player's status.
"Domanick made some progress today and David threw the ball a little bit better," Capers said. ""Both of those guys we'll take out on Sunday prior to the game. We'll have David throw, we'll have Domanick run and then we'll make a decision based on their availability for the game."
Carr threw with the training staff but didn't line up under center, save for the walk-thru sessions near the end of practice. He has a sprained right shoulder.
"We didn't have David do anything with the team today," Capers said. "We had to get Dave Ragone and Mike Quinn some repetitions."
Ragone, who has yet to take a snap in his rookie season, would start if Carr can't go. Fellow rookie Tony Hollings would take the place of Davis (ankle) at running back. Hollings has rushed for 74 yards on 18 carries this season. Both Ragone and Hollings have taken all the snaps with the first team this week.
"We've got two young, talented guys that have had a good week of practice," Capers said. "The only thing those guys lack is game experience. I feel comfortable with either one of those guys."
The
Texans depart for Jacksonville tomorrow afternoon. Houston defeated
the Jaguars at ALLTEL Stadium 21-19 last season for its first road
win in franchise history.
