Explosive.
Willing learner.
Those are the words head coach Bill O'Brien and defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel use to describe Jadeveon Clowney.
Clowney is ready to chase some quarterbacks and put his speed and knowledge to the test. The Texans rookie outside linebacker will get to test his skills against Washington's elusive Robert Griffin III.
"One of the best running quarterbacks in the league, I think," Clowney said. "You've got to be ready to contain him in the pocket because he can get out there and cause havoc because he can run pretty fast."
Clowney, who will make his NFL regular season debut on Sunday, admits he was nervous before his first preseason game but not anymore. He has confidence in his knowledge of the Texans defense, knowing his assignments, and in his preparation for the game. Under defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel, linebackers coach Mike Vrabel, and also with defensive line coach Bill Kollar, Clowney feels he has grown "a lot" in the system.
"I've been learning the defense," Clowney said. "They put me on different spots on the field just to get me going out there. Just looking forward to playing."
The Texans will face Washington at NRG Stadium at Sunday with kickoff scheduled for noon (FOX-26/KRIV, SportsRadio 610).
