Reliant Stadium will host the historic "Battle of the Piney Woods" rivalry game between Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Reliant Stadium.
Kickoff time for the "Battle of the Piney Woods" rivalry game between Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Reliant Stadium in Houston will be 2 p.m., Lone Star Sports & Entertainment announced today.
A historic rivalry moves downtown as the Bearkats and the Lumberjacks will face off in the 85th football duel between the two NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision teams. The SHSU-SFA series is the second-oldest FCS rivalry in Texas.
"The Battle of the Piney Woods is one of the great traditions in college football in the state of Texas, and we are proud to bring it to Reliant Stadium," said LSSE president Jamey Rootes. "We want to make Reliant Stadium the premier venue for every level of college football in Texas, and this rivalry brings us one step closer to that goal."
Battle of the Piney Woods tickets are now on sale through each university's athletic ticket offices, on their websites at www.gobearkats.com and www.sfajacks.com. Fans can contact the SHSU ticket office at (936) 294-1729 or the SFA ticket office at (936) 468-JACK.
Tickets also are available from LSSE at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Reliant Park box office, Fiesta, Macy's, FYE, Wherehouse Music and select HEB stores or online at Ticketmaster.com.
Ticket prices range from $15 to $35. Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin season ticket holders will have premium ticket locations included in their packages.
Only lower bowl seating will be open at Reliant Stadium for the "Battle of the Piney Woods." Sam Houston fans will be seated on the west side of the stadium while the SFA section will be on the east side.
Prime seating locations ($35) for Bearkat fans will be in sections 106 and 107 and for Lumberjacks supporters in sections 126 and 127. Seats from the 20 to 40-yard lines ($25) are located in sections 104, 105, 108 and 109 on the SHSU side and in sections 124, 125, 128 and 129 on the SFA side.
Primary student seating areas for Sam Houston will be in sections 110-114 and for Stephen F. Austin in sections 130-134.
Lone Star Sports & Entertainment has announced that Reliant Stadium will be the home of the rivalry each of the next four years.
The Battle of the Piney Woods dates back to 1923, with Sam Houston State holding a 48-34-2 edge in the series.
The Sam Houston vs. Stephen F. Austin match-up will be one of three college games hosted at Reliant Stadium by Lone Star Sports & Entertainment next season.
Rice will play its home game against Texas on Saturday, September 4, and the 2010 Texas Bowl will pit teams from the Big 12 and the Big Ten against one another in late December.
