Texans defensive end Tim Jamison will miss the rest of the season with a torn Achilles tendon.
Jamison, the Texans' third defensive end behind J.J. Watt and Antonio Smith, was injured late in the first quarter against Green Bay on Sunday night.
"I feel bad for Timmy," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "He's worked real hard and was a big positive going for us."
Jamison had three tackles, one sack and one pass defensed in six games this season. He played in all 16 games in 2011, tallying 19 tackles and two sacks. Jamison was undrafted out of Michigan in 2009 and spent parts of his first two seasons on the Texans' practice squad. He signed a two-year contract extension a day before the start of the season.
Rookie defensive end Jared Crick is likely to step in as a rotational player. A fourth-round draft pick from Nebraska, Crick has four tackles this season, including two against the Packers. He had 20.0 career sacks at Nebraska, including 19.0 as a sophomore and junior.
The Texans will sign another defensive end, possibly David Hunter, an undrafted rookie from the University of Houston who is currently on their practice squad.
"We've got a young man on our practice squad who we think a lot of in Hunter, so that's option number one, but we've got a couple days here to take a look," Kubiak said. "We only carry six guys on our team, so we're very shorthanded defensive line-wise, but we'll have to do something."
Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph (groin) and safety Quintin Demps (forearm) are both day-to-day. Kubiak said Demps "has a chance" to play after missing the last two games with a broken forearm. Texans right guard Antoine Caldwell suffered a concussion against the Packers.
The Baltimore Ravens, who the Texans play in Week 7 at Reliant Stadium, are dealing with significant injuries of their own. They announced Monday that future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis will miss the rest of the season with a torn triceps, while Lardarius Webb, their top cornerback, is done for the season a torn ACL.
Haloti Ngata, the Ravens' Pro Bowl defensive tackle, has a knee injury but is expected to play in Week 7.
