Rookie DeAndre Hopkins was the first wide receiver drafted by the Texans in the first round since Andre Johnson in 2003.
He already sounds like Johnson off the field.
Asked about his individual goals for this season, Hopkins replied with a team-first answer reminiscent of Johnson, the Texans' all-time leading receiver who has been with the team since 2003.
"My goal is to win a Super Bowl," Hopkins, 20, said Friday for the ‘Off the Turf with Scurf’ podcast. "Hopefully, that's everybody on the team's goal. I don't have any individual goals but to win a Super Bowl."
Two weeks into his first OTAs, Hopkins has similar goals for his NFL career.
"Be a multi Super Bowl champion, basically; that's it," he said. "I want to be a champion. I feel like individual goals come with big goals like that. Setting the bar high is to win a championship, not being a Pro Bowler or anything like that. Just being in the league for a long time and hopefully staying on the same team and bringing multiple championships to the city."
Hopkins has been just what the Texans expected so far, catching everything in sight during rookie mini-camp from May 10-12 and operating as a starter during OTAs. He hopes to continue to earn the confidence of his coaches and teammates in the upcoming final week of OTAs, the Texans' June 11-13 mini-camp and training camp in the fall.
"Just that I'm a hard worker, dedicated to whatever duty I have to have on this team," Hopkins said of what he hopes to show in the rest of the offseason. "If I catch one ball a game or five balls a game or 10 balls a game, I'm going to be a hard worker. It's not going to get me up or down."
Spoken just like Johnson, whose locker at Reliant Stadium is right next to Hopkins' and who Hopkins sits next to in team meetings.
"I've learned a lot from him so far," Hopkins said. "I couldn't point out one thing in particular because I've learned so much just in these couple weeks that I've been here. He treats all the rookies like little brothers. We ask him any questions, and he's there for us. Off the field as well; we call him if we need anything or any kind of advice, (and) he's got it.
"It's my pleasure to be able to play with a guy like that, somebody that I've looked up to my whole career playing football, basically since he's been here. When he was at Miami, I used to watch him. So it's an honor just to be beside someone like that and just know that he's grooming you to be like him one day."
