On Wednesday, December 2, 2015, Houston Texans All-Pro Duane Brown will commemorate "Duane Brown Day" in Houston. To celebrate, Duane and his wife, Devi Brown, are making a donation to the group that nominated him for the honor in 2014, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Recreation and Wellness Division. Since 2009, Duane has sponsored the department through a team ticketing program called TACT.
"Last year was very surreal," said Brown. "I can't really say that I think about it as 'my' day, but more of a celebration of the organizations and lives that I've had the privilege of impacting throughout my time in Houston. So really, it's their day."
During his time in Houston, Brown has made the most of his celebrity by using it to do good throughout the community. He is a national ambassador for the American Diabetes Association, ambassador for the United Way’s education initiatives and spokesman for BHP Billiton’s Community Quarterback program, which recognizes philanthropic leaders in Houston. He has also been an advocate for the Houston Food Bank, hosted holiday fundraisers for local children's organizations and can always be found participating in teammates' philanthropic events.
"I've always felt that it was important to give back to the community," said Brown. "It is my hope that December 2nd, "Duane Brown Day," can continue to represent a day of giving, caring, partnership and support in the community."
Brown is encouraging all of Houston to highlight good works and philanthropic programs throughout the day on social media with the official hashtag of "Duane Brown Day," #DBDay2015.
