*The following is a random assortment of quotes, oddities, scattershots and interesting tidbits from Sunday's training camp practices.
**-The team wore 'shells' on Sunday for the first time during training camp. 'Shells' is short for 'shoulder pads' and 'helmets'. Because the team was in shells, practice was a bit more physical than it had been the first two days of camp.
-At one point during the outside portion of the morning work, while the offense and defense were broken off into position groups, the specialists went through an interesting drill. Punters Shane Lechler and Andrew Shapiro, along with kicker Randy Bullock and long snapper Jon Weeks, fielded tennis balls from special teams assistant Bob Ligashesky. Taking turns, each player would start around mid-field and run toward the north end zone, and Ligashesky would fire a grounder for the specialist to field.
-For a few moments during the outside portion of the morning practice, general manager Rick Smith and 1989 Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware chatted on the sidelines. Ware will continue his color-commentator duties for Texans Radio this autumn, alongside play-by-play voice Marc Vandermeer.
-For the third straight morning, the quartet of running back Arian Foster, wide receiver Andre Johnson, tight end Owen Daniels and safety Ed Reed caught footballs from the JUGS machine. Reed even snared a few with just one hand.
-The ‘Texans Elvis’ attended practice Sunday morning. He didn't wear the full jumpsuit. And he didn't wear blue suede shoes, either.
-In the afternoon, the team was again inside the Houston Methodist Training Center, practicing without helmets or shoulder pads.
-Former Houston Oilers safety Bubba McDowell watched the afternoon practice. McDowell is currently the safeties coach at Prairie View A&M University, and he's also a Texans Ambassador.
-Following the afternoon practice, wide receivers Jeff Maehl, DeVier Posey, Lestar Jean and Alec Lemon caught tennis balls from a tennis ball machine.
-Portions of ESPN's 'SportsCenter' will be live from Texans training camp on Monday. Stan Verrett, Darren Woodson and Josina Anderson will serve as the talent on location, and there was a crew setting up the desk on Sunday afternoon.
-Formerly the Methodist Training Center, the word 'Houston' has been added to the title of the facility across the street from Reliant Stadium. With three natural grass outdoor practice fields and one with artificial turf inside, it's now called the Houston Methodist Training Center.
-For fans coming to any of the open practices, the 2013 NFL stadium bag policy will be in effect. For more information on that, click here.
