After a standout rookie campaign, Justin Reid is getting some national attention.
ESPN compiled a list of the most impactful rookies from the 2018 season. Reid, selected with the Texans fourth pick of the third-round (68th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft, was named best safety among the new class of players. According to ESPN.com:
"Reid started the last 13 games, including the wild-card playoff game, for the league's No. 4 scoring defense. Reid led the team with three interceptions and was the first player in team history to post the do-it-all stat line of least nine tackles, a special-teams tackle and a fumble recovery in the same game."
ESPN selected the 2018 All-Rookie team after "a season's worth of game analysis and several hours' worth of discussions with personnel evaluators and players." Trevor Daniel also made the ESPN list, receiving an honorable mention as the Texans rookie punter.
Through 16 games as a rookie, Reid compiled 81 total tackles, three interceptions including one returned 101 yards for a touchdown, 10 passes defensed, one quarterback hit, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and seven special teams tackles. He joined Charger safety Derwin James as the only rookies to record at least 80 total tackles, three interceptions and 10 passes defensed in 2018.
