Matthew Stafford, Jay Cutler and most Tampa Bay Buccaneers ruined a few seasons on Sunday. Doug Martin crushed mine. I know Eli Manning hurt yours. I know this because I told you to start him. Why? Because he's Eli Manning! Seemed like an obvious play to me. But oh yeah, he's Eli Manning.
Sorry.
The fantasy community is riddled with owners who feel wronged by Sunday's poor performers. I just hope you had enough good moves to counteract guys like Stevan Ridley. Oh yeah, he hurt me too.
While my enthusiasm may not be evident, I am very happy for all of you who are advancing to the Super Bowl. Really. Ok, kind of.
Here are a few interesting players to consider. It shouldn't be too competitive on the waiver wire, with teams eliminated. Still, get to the wire early.
Danny Woodhead, RB, New England Patriots – Fumbles by Ridley and Shane Vereen led to Woodhead's mid-game promotion. And even against a stout San Francisco defense, Woodhead put up nice numbers, toting the ball 12 times for 61 yards with two touchdowns. It's likely that Ridley gets the start this week, but even so, Woodhead should get more playing time as the playoff picture formalizes. Avaialble in 66 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Sam Bradford, QB, St. Louis Rams – While mostly fantasy irrelevant this season, Bradford came alive on Sunday with 377 yards and three touchdowns. I normally would assume this to be a little blip in the data and move on. But this week, he faces the Buccaneers, who have the worst secondary in the NFL, surrendering the most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Let the streak continue. Available in 78 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Dennis Pitta, TE, Baltimore Ravens – Yes, he's disappointed before, and I was one of those who held on too long. But here's why I like him. First, he caught seven receptions for 125 yards, including two touchdowns. Second, Torrey Smith is likely out this week. Pitta will shoulder more of the load. It's a lock. Available in 69 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Kirk Cousins, QB, Washington Redskins – Congratulations, Kirk! Those are big shoes to fill. Fast ones too. While I doubt you'll earn a Subway endorsement, your play was almost RG3-esque. At 329 yards, two touchdowns and one pick, Cousins was among the top-producing quarterbacks. Robert Griffin III's availability for Sunday is uncertain. Starting Cousins would be gutsy. Even against Philly. Instead, consider Cousins a good QB2 option. Available in 96 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
Mike Tolbert, RB, Carolina Panthers – With Jonathan Stewart out, Tolbert is the new handcuff. He doesn't get a lot of carries, but he scores. In two weeks, he has three touchdowns. Consider Tolbert a deep league grab. Available in 94 percent of Yahoo leagues.
