First week of camp ends with fan-filled night practice

The first week of Texans training camp has come to a close after a long and eventful Thursday.

The Texans practiced in the morning at 8 a.m., signed Andre Johnson to a contract extension sometime in the early afternoon, had a press conference with Johnson. owner Bob McNair and general manager Rick Smith at 1:45 p.m., then ended the day with a night practice - their only one of 2010 training camp - in front of thousands of fans at the Methodist Training Center from 7:15-8:30 p.m.

After the evening practice, as is his custom each year, Texans coach Gary Kubiak had the entire team walk over to the fence lining the practice field to sign autographs for fans. Kubiak joined in on the autograph signing as well after speaking with the media for a few minutes.

"It's important," Kubiak said. "Our fans are great. We enjoy it ... and we appreciate the fans coming out."
