Girls Flag Football gets massive boost thanks to Season Premiere

The game of Girls Flag Football in the Houston area got a big boost Thursday night, thanks to the Houston Texans Season Premiere.

The annual event featured live and silent auctions, delicious food and drinks, and the chance to mingle with Texans players, coaches and front office staff. When the evening wrapped, more than $1.4 million had been raised for Girls Flag Football in the Houston Independent School District. It was a memorable night for a variety of reasons, and Event Co-Chair Hannah McNair was ecstatic with the success.

"Now, even more girls in our community will have access to the sport they love," McNair said. "We're proud to commit to funding our Girls Flag Football Program in all 25 HISD schools in 2025. This is a three-year commitment that will create more opportunities for even more girls to take the field together."

McNair, along with fellow co-Chairs Kathleen Caserio, Jamila Ryans and Jamie Grissom, pointed to the bright future of the sport beyond H.I.S.D.

"We can't wait to see girls flag continue to grow not just in H-Town, but statewide," McNair said. "There are currently 12 states that have sanctioned girls flag as a high school varsity sport. Our goal is to make Texas next so girls have a chance to play flag at the highest level."

At the preseason finale versus the Los Angeles Rams, the halftime entertainment was a Girls Flag Football game between Booker T. Washington and Westbury. Those are two of the 25 high schools whose football programs are now fully-funded for the next three years. Washington wound up winning, 6-0.

McNair called the Season Premiere success "an incredible night", and thanked the fans and Foundation supporters who were so generous in supporting the event and ultimately, the sport of Girls Flag Football.
