They've been so terrific, they were named the H-E-B Tailgaters of the Game on September 29 when the Texans beat the Jaguars. Candy Luna, a founding member of the group, explained why they took home the prize that day, and will hopefully be named the H-E-B Tailgate of the Year on Christmas Day.
"We always show up and bring the energy," Luna said. "From subtle touches of Texans decorations to our very own life-sized TORO, who plays a big part in our team, we make our presence known. In all of Maroon Lot, we're the only tailgaters with a life-size TORO. It provides the best game day photo ops!"
But there's more than just flash to the Twisted TORO Tailgate. They deliver the goods when it comes to serving up delicious food. Luna pointed to the delicious Hispanic foods they serve, and noted how H-E-B's products are an integral part of the gameday spread.
"As true Texans, we believe in having the best, and H-E-B never disappoints," Luna said. "From the stadium nachos we serve at every game to our H-E-B baskets and decorations, it's a staple of our tailgates. One game day essential is the famous H-E-B wipes, which our ladies appreciate for that extra touch of cleanliness."
The Twisted TORO Tailgaters are also active in giving back to the Houston community. In 2023, they partnered with Houston's own "Pancho Claus" and collected more than 100 toys to give out to children in need during the Christmas season.
Their favorite memory is when they picked up the prize for H-E-B Tailgater of the Game earlier this fall, and they're aiming for the big prize later this month at H-E-B Tailgater of the Year.
