J.J. Watt returned to practice on Monday as the Texans began preparation for Sunday's home opener against the Chicago Bears.
Watt, who underwent back surgery prior to training camp, passed his physical and reinstated to the active roster, the team announced on Sunday. Head coach Bill O'Brien said that Watt will play Week 1 but did not elaborate on the number of snaps.
"I would say that he will play," O'Brien said. "Beyond that, I won't be able to answer much."
The three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year has not missed a game since he entered the league in 2011. Watt finished the 2015 season with 80 consecutive regular season starts, ranking third among active NFL defensive ends.
