Jackson on free agency: "It hasn't really hit me yet"

After five seasons as a Texan, Kareem Jackson finds it hard to imagine wearing any other logo on his helmet. The 26-year-old cornerback is set to hit free agency next month for the first time in his NFL career.

"Honestly, it hasn't really hit me yet," Jackson said in an interview with Texans TV on Wednesday. "There's still kind of this thought in my head that I'm still a Houston Texan. Being that I am a free agent, it still hasn't really hit me yet but at the end of the day, I definitely understand the business. I think when it comes, March 10, and things are starting to pick up a lot more, it will definitely hit me then. "

Jackson, who recently became engaged to long-time girlfriend Amber Deville, took part in a Houston charity fashion show Wednesday night and interacted with guests and Texans fans. With just over six weeks since the end of the season, Jackson is waiting to ramp up his workouts again.

"It's still a little bit early, just kind of taking a break, letting my body get back to 100 percent," Jackson said. "The next month or so, I'll hit it 100 miles per hour but now I'll just ease back into it: do a little bit of hot yoga, play a little basketball here and there."

Jackson missed three games last season with a knee injury and finished the year with 57 tackles, a career-high four for losses, three interceptions, nine passes defensed, and one quarterback hit.
