When the 2016 season started, Jadeveon Clowney's one goal was to stay healthy and on the field. He accomplished more than that, setting single-season career highs in tackles (52), sacks (6.0), quarterback hits (17) and games started/played (14) and earning his first Pro Bowl bid.
But that was 2016.
Clowney is aiming to be even better in 2017.
"That's the goal," Clowney said Tuesday. "That's what we're working toward. It's a new year every year. You got to come out and prove yourself every year. I just come in to prove myself again."
After switching from outside linebacker to defensive end, Clowney also had to adjust to a new role last fall. Clowney, now entering his fourth season with the Texans, says he feels "great" and is ready for the 2017 season to start.
"Right now I'm just playing everything," Clowney said. "They got me moving all over the field. I love what I'm doing right now. I love the schemes we got. They're putting all the defenses together really good for us. They're moving us around. Nobody is standing still, so that's a good thing. Knowing the defense will make it a lot better so we really move on our own and move to certain spots that we know. It's just basically game planning, really. That's why I do that."
The Houston Texans Training Camp presented by XFINITY will begin on Wednesday, July 26 at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. The 2017 training camp marks the first time in franchise history that the Texans will hold camp outside of the city of Houston.
