Jadeveon Clowney hasn't missed a start in 2016, currently leading the NFL with eight tackles for loss, after recording four TFLs in Week 5 at Minnesota.
The 6-5, 270-pound defensive end is making plays and getting noticed around the league.
"He's a different guy," Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said via conference call Wednesday. "The guy is playing as good as anybody in the league right now up front. He's playing with a ton of confidence, a ton of physicality. We know the athleticism. We know the God-given dominant traits that he has as a football player, but his motor is running and it's running hot. It never stops."
In five starts, Clowney has 19 tackles, 16 solo, six quarterback hits, two sacks, and one pass defensed. In his first start at defensive end in Week 1, Clowney had a career-high three quarterback hits on Jay Cutler. On Sunday, he tied a career-high eight tackles on Sunday and his position is still evolving.
"We play him in a lot of different places," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "We've got him off the edge, we've got him inside, we've got him over the center, we've got him at linebacker spots, he's moving around a lot. He doesn't just play from tackle to tackle so he's moving around quite a bit."
Nearly two years removed from his microfracture knee surgery, Clowney feels healthy in his third year. He believes being able to practice consistently is a big reason for his success so far.
"It's good," Clowney said. "I get to work my technique, go out there and work the scheme we got going into the game plan. You make plays at practice, you are going to make them in the game."
