Kevin Johnson is making steady progress after missing three games this season.
"I think he's close," O'Brien said. "I don't think he'll be able to go this week, but he's close."
The third-year starting cornerback has been working his way back to the lineup after a knee injury sidelined him following the Week 2 win Cincinnati. The 2015 first-round pick is not yet practicing with the team, but is running on the side field.
Johnson will likely miss Sunday's game against Cleveland. With an upcoming bye, Johnson could be nearing a return when the Texans travel to Seattle on Oct. 29.
