Mallett, Manning make first appearance on unofficial depth chart

The Texans have released the unofficial depth chart for this week's season opener against the Washington Redskins. Several new names appear, as the team made a littany of roster moves to add players during the past few days.

New acquired quarterback Ryan Mallett is listed as the team's backup signal caller, behind previously announced starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. Mallett played for Texans head coach Bill O'Brien during his stint in New England as the Patriots offensive coordinator.

In addition to Mallett, wide receiver Damaris Johnson and offensive tackle Jeff Adams, who were claimed on waivers Sunday, are listed on the offensive depth chart. Adams will serve as the backup to Duane Brown. Johnson is also slotted as the second man to handle both kickoff and punt return duty behind incumbent Keshawn Martin.

A familiar name has also returned, as safety Danieal Manning checks in as the team's back up safety. Manning was signed by the team late on Monday afternoon, adding depth to the secondary. Manning had previously suited up for the Texans from 2011-13.
