It took just one half of football for the Texans starting quarterback, Ryan Mallett, to score his second-career NFL touchdown.
Mallett connected with Garrett Graham to give the Texans a 14-7 lead heading into halftime at Cleveland.
The drive started on a J.J. Watt fumble recovery at the Houston 22-yard line. Mallett completed passes to Damaris Johnson and Andre Johnson. Both running backs, Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes, combined for 22 yards rushing on the drive.
Mallett converted on a third-and-one with a two-yard keeper up the middle for a first down. Graham caught a 14-yarder and then the 20-yard touchdown pass on the following play, both down the middle of the field.
Garrett's score, his first touchdown of 2014, capped off a nine-play, 78-yard drive with 0:23 remaining in the second quarter.
Mallett completed 10-of-16 for 133 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception for a passer rating of 102.3 in the first half at FirstEnergy Field.
