Mathis signs with CFL team

Former Texans kick returner Jerome Mathis has **signed with the Toronto Argonauts** of the Canadian Football League, according to the Toronto Star. Mathis made the Pro Bowl and was first-team AP All-Pro after his 2005 rookie season with the Texans, when he averaged 28.6 yards per kick return and scored two touchdowns.

He suffered a foot injury at the Pro Bowl and missed most of the 2006 season. In 2007, Mathis played in three games before being placed on injured reserve with another leg injury. The Washington Redskins signed him as a free agent last April, then cut him a month later.

The Texans drafted Mathis in the fourth round in 2005 after he ran a 4.28 40-yard dash at the combine. He was a track All-American in the 200 meters at Hampton University. In parts of three seasons with the Texans, Mathis returned 72 kickoffs for 2,054 yards (28.5 average) and three touchdowns.
