Around 10 p.m. tonight, Amobi Okoye will arrive in Houston with members of his family, and then tomorrow morning he will be introduced officially to the Houston media at an 11:30 a.m. press conference that we will be streaming live on HoustonTexans.com.
The mood inside Reliant Stadium since the pick was made has been extremely happy and relaxed. All of the scouts have smiles on their faces, which is a good sign. But they all know that there is work still to be done. The third-round pick is coming up quickly, and a lot of good players are still left on the draft board. Wide receiver Jason Hill of Washington State is still there, as is Notre Dame receiver Rhema McKnight and Steve Breaston from Michigan, who also is a dangerous returner.
If the Texans don't go that route, there are some solid offensive linemen available, including USC center Ryan Kalil, Notre Dame tackle Ryan Harris, who attended the same high school in Minnesota as well-known athletes like Paul Molitor, Joe Mauer and Chris Weinke, Hawaii center Samson Satele and guard Doug Datish from Ohio State.
So I'd venture to say that the Texans can find a starter in the third round, but I don't want to jump the gun. There still are about 20 picks remaining before the Texans pick again, so cross your fingers.
