Offensive tackle Duane Brown, Houston's 26th overall pick, talked to Texans TV about becoming a Texan, and he took time to answer some fan questions.

Brooke Bentley (Texans TV): You found out on Saturday that you were drafted. On Sunday, you got to Houston. What is going through your head?

Duane Brown: It's just a whirlwind, the whole draft process and having to come here early this morning - I'm just full of excitement, really. I'm happy to be here, be around these great people.

Brooke Bentley: I interviewed at the East-West Shrine game and you said you were trying to stand out this offseason and you were trying get noticed as first-round pick. Do you think your excellent combine performance helped you do that?

Duane Brown: Definitely, from the East-West Shrine game, to the combine, to my pro day, I think I really solidified myself as a first-rounder. A lot of teams were impressed with me and my performance. I'm just very fortunate and very blessed.

Fan questions
Anthony (Clear Lake): Who called you from the Texans (on draft day) and what did that person say?

Duane Brown: Rick Smith called me and asked me how I was doing and asked me if I would like to come to the Houston Texans. I said I would love to. After that moment, I really can't tell you too much of the conversation. I was so full of emotions and overwhelmed.

Don (Houston): Were you surprised that you were taken at the 26th spot?

Duane Brown: Not really. I had a lot of people telling me there was a possibility I could go in the first round. And when I saw the tackles coming off the board so quick, I knew that it may be a possibility. But you are always surprised because the draft's a very unpredictable event. I was a bit surprised and was very elated.

Don (Houston): Did playing tight end help improve your performance on the offensive line?

Duane Brown: I think so, playing tight end you get a feel for it's like in the trenches. It's the same footwork in run blocking and things like that. So it helped me out and prepared me for it.

Brian Johnson (Colonial Height, VA): Do you expect to start right away?

Duane Brown: I do. They wouldn't have drafted me in the first round if they didn't expect me to come in and contribute immediately, so I'm just going to try to soak up everything I can and learn as much as I can. And when training camp starts, show what I can do and see what happens.
