The Texans will face Green Bay on Sunday and will attempt to further the troubles of a Packers club that has gone 1-4 over its past five games.

Smith named to NFL's Competition Committee: Texans general manager Rick Smith was appointed to the NFL's Competition Committee by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

"It obviously is an enormous responsibility and a tremendous honor for me to be appointed to the competition committee," Smith said. "It's something that's very important to our league, and so, I'm blessed to be a part of it and am excited about the opportunity."

The prestigious committee is a group of eight members chosen from the ranks of the NFL to maintain the integrity of the game by overseeing playing rules, personnel rules and game operations.

"I have a tremendous amount of respect for Roger and how he's running the league and the things that he is doing," Smith said. "So, for me to have an opportunity to serve and be a part of something at the league level is obviously is important."

Smith replaces former Detroit Lions President and CEO Matt Millen and joins Titans head coach Jeff Fisher, Falcons President Rich McKay,Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, Giants President and CEO John Mara, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome, Colts President Bill Polian and Panthers President Mark Richardson.

{QUOTE}Texans excited for the cold: The weather was a little chillier at the Texans' practice on Friday, but it was nothing like what the players will face at Green Bay where temperatures are expected to be in the teens on Sunday.

"You don't prepare to play in 10, 15 degrees," coach Gary Kubiak said. "It's just something you have to do. You just go out there and do it.

"It's a mindset and we have a lot of players on our team that are from schools where they played in a lot of cold weather from time to time. So, it's just part of it. I think our guys are looking forward to it to be honest with you."

Most Texans have said they don't plan on dressing in long sleeve shirts, and the offensive line will fine any members of the unit who wear long sleeve shirts under their jerseys.

"Just don't wear sleeves and go out there and fly around," wide receiver Kevin Walter said. "That's all I say. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Injury notes: Defensive end Anthony Weaver practiced with the team after missing two days with a sore knee and will be ready to start at Green Bay.

Safety Nick Ferguson (knee) sat out a third consecutive day and will be a game-time decision. If Ferguson is unable to go, Brandon Harrison will start in his place.
