Deshaun Watson's leadership, championship pedigree, athletic ability and all-around poise are key attributes that many toss around when describing the rookie quarterback.
But Watson's preparedness has impressed his coaches and teammates mightily.
"He's in here all the time," head coach Bill O'Brien said Tuesday. "There is no questioning this kid's work ethic. He's in here on the weekends."
For Watson, spending the extra time to get ready for the rigors of being an NFL quarterabck is of paramount importance.
"I want to be mentally sharp when I step on the field," Watson said. "I want to be able to operate the offense. Be able to come out here and execute at a high level. I have to put the time in, pay my dues, so when I come out here I'm ready and can show what I have."
O'Brien elaborated on Watson's weekend work, which was witnessed by his son and the sons of strength and conditioning coach Craig Fitzgerald.
"I wasn't even in here this past weekend," O'Brien said. "My kid was in here with Fitzy's kids and saw Deshaun in there. 'Hey Dad, Deshaun was in there.'"
Quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan echoed the praise of Watson's preparedness, and the professionalism he's displayed at such a young age.
"I really like his approach, his approach to the process which is a day-to-day process of learning to be an NFL quarterback and the many things that come with that," Ryan said. "Really, it starts with the Xs and Os of our offense."
Cornerback Johnathan Joseph said Watson's absorbing all that's come his way, and leaned on veterans when necessary.
"He's come in, been quiet, all ears, been learning, paying attention," Joseph said. "I think this is a great veteran team so guys are definitely trying to help him out as much as we can."
