David Quessenberry's youngest brother, Scott, hopes to make a name for himself at this year's Reese's Senior Bowl. The UCLA offensive lineman said his training for the NFL began early as the youngest of the three Quessenberry brothers.
"Everything was a competition when we were little," Scott Quessenberry said in an interview with Texans TV. "Pretty much finishing in last place as the youngest one all those years kind of gave me a jump start on what it was going to be like when I was finally playing with my own age and it did. I'm grateful for having two older brothers that had a high standard for me and held me to such high expectations and it was good growing up in that house."
Quessenberry (6-3, 314) started every game at center during his final two seasons at UCLA with 44 career starts, but is also comfortable lining up as a guard. Quessenberry and the offensive line paved the way for the Bruins who finished third in the conference in total offense last year. He will get to suit up in his UCLA gear one more time as part of the North Team during Saturday's Senior Bowl.
"It's awesome, it's pretty indescribable," Quessenberry said. "I had a great experience at UCLA and to be able to wear the UCLA decal one more time and my helmet down here, competing with the best players in the country, it's a true honor."
His eldest brother David Quessenberry, diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2014, spent three seasons on the Reserve/Non-Football Illness list while he underwent chemotherapy and radiation. Last year, he worked his way back into football shape and was elevated from the practice squad to the active roster. Quessenberry made his first NFL start and served as a captain in the Texans Week 16 game against Pittsburgh.
"It kind of just sent shivers down your spine and gives you the chills," Scott Quessenberry said. "For a guy that's gone through and overcome what he's gone through is incredible and he deserves it I think more than anyone in the world and to finally see it happen for him was incredibly special."
The 69th Reese's Senior Bowl is scheduled for January 27 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. CT.
Several players on the current Texans roster played in the Senior Bowl in years past.
