Tom Savage and DeAndre Hopkins have spent a lot of time together this offseason with one goal in mind.
"He and I are on the same page," Savage said Tuesday after practice.
The two have been working on perfecting their chemistry all offseason. With Savage named the starter, it's been the fourth-year quarterback's first opportunity at getting all the reps with the Texans No. 1 target.
"They're working hard," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "They're staying after practice. They're coming out here early. I saw them out here actually on their off day – not actually doing anything physically, but talking about the route, watching film together. I think they get along real well. They believe in each other and it's been a good camp for them so far. They kind of understand what we're trying to do, relative to them. So, I think it's been good and has to keep going."
Since his rookie season in 2013, Hopkins will have caught passes from five different starting quarterbacks in Week 1. The Pro Bowl receiver has worked hard to build chemistry with all the quarterbacks, but most of his time on the field has been with Savage and it shows. The two have connected in training camp early and often.
"It's been great, it's been great," Hopkins said. "Tom and I, we've been talking the whole offseason and so for us to come out here and do what we're doing now, it's no surprise to either of us. We knew we were going to come out here and kill it (at) this camp so far, and that's what we've been doing."
The Texans continue with Day 7 of training camp practice at The Houston Methodist practice fields at The Greenbrier on Wednesday.
