The NFL announced today that quarterback Matt Schaub has been nominated for FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week honors after his stellar Week 11 performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Schaub led the Houston Texans to a 43-37 OT win at Reliant Stadium by passing for a career-high 527 yards with five touchdowns. He completed 43-of-55 passes, including the game-winning 48-yard touchdown to wide receiver Andre Johnson. Schaub tied former Houston Oilers quarterback Warren Moon for the second-most passing yards in a game in NFL history.
"There's something about him," said Andre Johnson, who had a franchise-record 273 receiving yards on Sunday. "He just has a look in his eye on gameday. I don't know what it is. He just has this focus. I don't know if it's because of what he went through last season and he's just determined not to go through it and just take advantage of every opportunity that he gets now."
Fans can vote for Schaub at NFL.com/FedExnow through 2 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 23. The winner will be announced Friday on NFL Total Access on NFL Network and on NFL.com.
Other nominees include Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III.
As part of the Air & Ground program and its commitment to small business owners, FedEx will support education efforts at Junior Achievement by making weekly $2,000 donations in each of the winning players' names. The funding, allocated to local Junior Achievement area offices in that team's city or state, is used to help U.S. small business development, by educating the next generation of entrepreneurs on how to start and grow their own businesses.
