Thousands of Texans Season Ticket Members poured onto the NRG Stadium floor for the State of the Texans event presented by Ticketmaster that got everyone even more fired up for the 2024 campaign.
I was lucky enough to be the emcee and I can tell you this was as loud and passionate as any non-draft offseason event ever.
We began by introducing Chair and CEO Cal McNair and Texans Foundation V.P. Hannah McNair to a thunderous ovation. Prior to the event, they had a long line of STMs waiting to get a pic with them. One fan came over to me and shrieked with delight "I got a picture with Hannah and Cal!"
After the McNairs greeted the crowd, it was time for Head Coach DeMeco Ryans and Executive VP/General Manager Nick Caserio to take the stage. The crowd roared. The two took dozens of questions from Season Ticket Members and addressed everything from defensive alignments to Caserio's vests.
One STM asked about the gauntlet of quarterbacks Houston is facing. When you put the names together it looks daunting; Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers plus Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff, Dak Prescott – stop me!
Houston Texans Season Ticket Members attended an exclusive State of the Texans event presented by Ticketmaster and heard from Texans Chair & CEO Cal McNair, Vice President of the Houston Texans Foundation Hannah McNair, Head Coach DeMeco Ryans, Executive Vice President and General Manager Nick Caserio, and Pro Football Hall of Famer and Texans Ring of Honor member Andre Johnson.
"If you want to be successful in this league you have to go beat those top quarterbacks. It's a challenge that we actually look forward to. We'll see how good our defense can be," Ryans answered. "That's why we invest in our defensive line. If you can put pressure on those quarterbacks, you can force them to make bad decisions."
Another fan asked about what game they were looking forward to the most. Caserio answered, "I'd say the most important game would be the first one (at Indianapolis). If we're going to go where we want to go, we have to take care of business in the division. What better opportunity than with the Colts in the opening game? Then we can come home for Sunday night (against Chicago) the next week and hopefully this place will be rocking."
After the Coach and GM left the stage, surprise guest Andre Johnson brought the house down. Fans got on their feet to cheer the first Hall of Famer in the history of the franchise. Andre answered more questions from the crowd and reemphasized that he's sharing his induction with all of H-Town.
Texans President Greg Grissom closed the night with an important point – that in order to have the best possible home field advantage, the fans need to be in their seats before kickoff. Everyone cheered in agreement. Now they just need to execute that game plan.
We still have about a month and a half until training camp. But by the energy in the room on Tuesday night, you know the fans are ready to open the season immediately. Can't wait!
