Jordan Akins made his debut on Thursday with a touchdown on his first NFL reception.
The rookie tight end then followed it up with a second touchdown on his very next catch.
"I was pretty nervous," Akins said after the game. "After that first play, the nerves calmed down a bit. I focused on my assignment, the jitters went down and I was able to execute and come off the ball and make plays for the team."
Akins, who had two receptions for 20 yards and two touchdowns before halftime, solidified a place in Texans history with his performance.
"It was a dream come true," Akins said.
On his first series under center, Brandon Weeden completed five consecutive passes before tossing a six-yard score to Akins for his first-career touchdown.
On the Texans next possession, Weeden found Akins again on a 14-yard touchdown pass, to cap off a six-play, 71-yard scoring drive. Houston took a 14-0 lead with 11:04 left in the second quarter.
The Texans selected Akins with a third-round draft pick out of Central Florida. Akins was also selected by the Texas Rangers in the third round of the 2010 MLB Draft as an outfield prospect.
