Texans fall in preseason finale

In the team's final preseason game before the start of the 2014 slate, the Houston Texans fell 40-13 to the San Francisco 49ers at NRG Stadium. The Texans concluded the preseason with a 2-2 record.

The Texans face the San Francisco 49ers at NRG Stadium.

Two quarterbacks saw action for the Texans on Thursday night, with Case Keenum and Tom Savage both seeing time under center.

Keenum, in his first start of the preseason, helmed the opening scoring drive of the night. He led the offense on an 11-play drive, covering 56 yards and ending with a 41-yard field goal by Chris Boswell. The third-year signal caller finished the night 8-of-17 for 70 yards.

Savage would relieve Keenum in the second quarter, putting together a seven-play drive that added three more points to the scoreboard. Savage completed key passes to Alfred Blue and Uzoma Nwachukwu to set up a 52-yard field goal by Randy Bullock.

The Texans fourth-round pick threw for 43 yards, completing 8-of-12 passes.

From there it would be all 49ers, as they went on to outscore the Texans 40-7 en route to the victory.

The Texans made several lineup changes at the outset of the contest, with multiple rookies taking the field as starters against San Francisco.

Texans draft picks Xavier Su'a-Filo and Blue both were inserted into the starting lineup.

Another draft pick, cornerback Andre Hal, made Texans preseason history by returning his second interception for a touchdown. That 'pick six' would be the team's lone points in the second half.

Jonathan Grimes topped the team in rushing, picking up 33 yards on eight carries. DeVier Posey led all receivers with four catches.

The Texans open up the 2014 season on Sunday, Sept. 7, as they square off against the Washington Redskins.
