Texans general manager Rick Smith left Houston at 7 a.m. on Thursday to pick up free agent safety Ed Reed in Texans chairman and CEO Bob McNair's private jet.
Reed, a nine-time Pro Bowler with the Baltimore Ravens, visited the Texans' facility at Reliant Stadium on Thursday. He is the first free agent the Texans are hosting this offseason.
Smith picked Reed up from Atlanta and arrived with him in Houston at a private hangar around noon. Reed traveled with his financial advisors Brad Davis and Brad Schwartz, as reported by Jason La Canfora of CBS.
Smith then brought Reed to Reliant Stadium to meet with Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, among others.
The Texans are looking for a replacement for Glover Quin, their starting free safety from 2011-12. Quin signed with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday as an unrestricted free agent.
