After a low-scoring first half, the Houston Texans ground down the Jacksonville Jaguars with second-half touchdowns from Joe Mixon and Dalton Schultz and came away with a 23-20 win.
Trevor Lawrence's return was not enough to galvanize the Jacksonville attack, and the quarterback was unable to finish the game, going 4 for 10 with an interception before making way for Mac Jones.
Texans QB C.J. Stroud threw for 242 yards and a touchdown in the win.
First Quarter
On a 56 degree day in Jacksonville, the visitors kicked off first. Five plays later, the Jaguars punted back to the Texans. Houston moved 33 yards before punting, and the teams repeated this back-and-forth throughout the opening period.
Second Quarter
On the first drive of the second quarter, Houston finally got on the board. Ka'imi Fairbairn split the uprights from 53-yards out on his first attempt of the day.
Lawrence was picked off by Derek Stingley Jr. on the next drive, and Fairbairn returned to nail a 30-yarder and extend the Texans' lead to six.
Cam Little hit from 33-yards out to bring the Jags within three at halftime.
Third Quarter
After punting away their first possession, the Texans gave up a 30-yard field goal that evened the scoreline.
An energized offense marched 70-yards on Jacksonville and finished things off with the first TD of the game, a seven-yard hard-nosed run from Joe Mixon.
The Jags didn't get a first down before punting again and Fairbairn hit his third of the day from 28-yards out to extend Houston's lead.
Fourth Quarter
Little whiffed from 33-yards out in the fourth quarter, opening the opportunity for the visitors to break the game open. Stroud obliged, finding Dalton Schultz all alone out on the right for a 22-yard score.
Mac Jones finally got the home team in the end zone with a 22-yard strike of his own to Parker Washington.
Then Jones found Brian Thomas Jr. from six yards out and hit Washington again on a two point conversion play to bring the score within three.
The Texans didn't give in though, holding firm and knocking off their divisional opponent for the win.
