The Houston Texans and Lone Star Sports & Entertainment (LSSE) partnered with a local artist and a few talented kids from DePelchin Children's Center to support Houston's 2026 FIFA World Cup Bid through the Art of Soccer initiative. This initiative invites local companies to purchase a soccer ball to paint and help fundraise for the Bid Committee, helping to bring the 2026 FIFA World Cup to Houston.
Artist David Maldonado created the design to reflect the beauty and diversity of Houston. The outlines of children playing soccer represent the joy that sports bring to the local community and serve to celebrate the Texans' and LSSE's long-standing partnership with DePelchin Children's Center, the largest foster and adoptive service center in the state of Texas. Maldonado drew the outline of his design and then worked with kids from DePelchin Children's Center to help them paint in the lines, and even add their own artistic flair.
The Texans and LSSE have always been big supporters of bringing international soccer to Houston, hosting major international soccer events each year like the CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinals at NRG Stadium on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Working in conjunction with the Harris County Houston Sports Authority, the Texans and LSSE have a vision to bring the FIFA World Cup to Houston, not only because it is a great city for sports, but also to bring the tourism and international acclaim that comes with hosting an event of this magnitude to our great city.
