Katy's Gary Joseph, Lamar Consolidated's Lydell Wilson and St. Pius' Robin Kirk were named the Texans High School Coach of the Year Award Winners.
This year's Houston Texans 5A Coach of the Year Award Winner is Gary Joseph of Katy High School. Katy ended the season with an overall record of 16-0 and walked away with the state championship convincingly, beating Pflugerville 28-7. Joseph previously won the Texans Coach of the Year Award in 2005, following a trip to the state finals.
This year's Houston Texans 4A-under Coach of the Year Award recipients are Lydell Wilson of Lamar Consolidated High School and Robin Kirk of St. Pius High School. The Lamar Consolidated Mustangs victoriously took the state title with a stupendous win over Copperas Cove 20-7 after posting his second consecutive 10-0 regular season.
Wilson previously won the Texans Coach of the Year Award in 2005, following a perfect regular season. Kirk led the Panthers to their 2nd straight TAPPS State Championship crown and the 3rd during his head coaching career, by beating Fort Worth Nolan 38-14.
The award presentation is on Wednesday, January 23 at the Westin Galleria, 5060 West Alabama, in the Monarch Room. Valet parking is complementary for media upon arrival. The 20 Texans High School Coach of the Week Award Winners will be recognized along with the three Coach of the Year Award winners. The dinner portion begins at 7:00 pm. Media will be provided a table to dine at during the event.
