Sunday is not just the start of the regular season. It's also Liberty White Out presented by BHP.
For the first time since 2017, the Houston Texans will open their regular season at NRG Stadium and they'll wear their Liberty White jerseys and pants.
Fans are encouraged to wear white as Houston hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars for a noon CT kickoff. Fans in attendance will receive liberty white pom poms courtesy of BHP.
At Liberty White Out games, our goal is to celebrate the new season and unite our fanbase and team by wearing Liberty White. We also reinforce our commitment to the Houston Community by celebrating and honoring first responders.
With that in mind, the Homefield Advantage Team Captain for Houston will be a "true" captain. From the Houston Fire Department, Captain Jason Wilson will lead the Texans onto the field. Wilson worked on Texas Task Force 1, a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Unit that responded to the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001. He worked around the clock at Ground Zero in the aftermath of the attacks.
The Coin Toss Captains will be Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Houston Police Department Chief of Police Troy Finner and Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña.
The last time these two squads faced off on Liberty White Day was Week 2 of 2019. With 30 seconds remaining in the game, S Justin Reid and the Houston defense stonewalled Leonard Fournette and the Jaguars at the goal line when Jacksonville attempted a late 2-point conversion. Instead of going up, 14-13, the Texans held onto a 13-12 advantage and won the game.
The greatest running back in team history, Arian Foster, thrived on Liberty White Out games during his career. After playing in a handful of games at the end of his 2009 rookie season, Foster erupted in the 2010 contest. Wearing the uniforms he called the "Icy Whites", Foster found the end zone three times and rushed for a franchise-best 231-yards on 33 carries in a 34-24 win over Indianapolis.
In four career games on Liberty White Out, Foster gained a combined 492-yards on the ground and scored six touchdowns. The Texans won all four of those games.
The Texans open the 2021 regular season against Jacksonville at NRG Stadium on Sept. 12. Kickoff is set for noon on CBS and SportsRadio 610. For tickets, click here.
