West Virginia was nice, but there's no place like home.
The Texans practiced at the Houston Methodist Training Center Monday morning. The team worked at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia since late July, and it was their first training camp practice of 2017 in front of the fans. Head coach Bill O'Brien was happy to hear the roar of a crowd while he and his team worked.
"It's great to be back in front of our fans," O'Brien said. "But our players need to get going, though."
In addition to a warm welcome from the few thousand fans in attendance, the Houston heat and humidity was also a change from the previous month in West Virginia. But it didn't faze running back Lamar Miller.
"I'm used to it," Miller said. "Coming back here, it wasn't a big adjustment to me. I'm always used to the heat."
Just being home and seeing family was a huge relief for many on the team, including offensive lineman Jeff Allen. Like many of his teammates, Allen away from his wife and two young children for the duration of camp.
"It was awesome," Allen said. "I didn't get a chance to see my family for the entire three-and-a-half weeks, so it was good to get back. My daughter was so happy. I got to see my son, and he acted like he didn't know me, but it was all good. I still missed him."
The Texans will work again outside at the Houston Methodist Training Center on Tuesday morning.
