The Houston Texans acquired safety Michael Boulware from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for defensive end Jason Babin, it was announced today.

Boulware (6-3, 220) is entering his fourth season in the NFL. Originally a second-round pick (53rd overall) by the Seahawks in 2004, he has played in 48 games with 28 starts in his career. In 2005, Boulware started all 16 games as well as three playoff games at SS for the Seahawks, helping them reach Super Bowl XL.

Boulware's career totals include 129 tackles, three sacks, 11 interceptions, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. His best year came in 2005, when he started every game during the Seahawks' run to Super Bowl XL. That year, Boulware recorded 58 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions. He also had a pick in the NFC Championship Game and another in the Super Bowl.

Babin (6-2, 267) is second on the Texans all-time sack list with 13. Last season, he played in 15 games with three starts and led the team with five sacks. Babin was the Texans' second pick in the first round of the 2004 draft (27th overall) and has played in 43 games with 22 starts in his first three seasons.

The trade is the 19th in Texans history and the fifth since general manager Rick Smith took over in June, 2006. Boulware joins QB Matt Schaub and RB Samkon Gado as players on the current Texans roster who were acquired via trade.

The Texans currently have 53 players on the roster. Teams can establish an eight-man practice squad on Sunday, Sept. 2.
