Texans release Nall; sign Walker

* *The Houston Texans have released QB Craig Nall and signed RB Darius Walker from the practice squad, it was announced today.

Nall (6-3, 230) signed with the Texans on October 30 and was inactive as the team's third quarterback in games at Oakland (11/4) and vs. New Orleans (11/18). Nall is in his sixth NFL season after being drafted in the fifth round of the 2002 draft by the Green Bay Packers out of Northwestern State (La.). He spent four seasons in Green Bay, serving as the number two quarterback from 2003-04. While a Packer, he saw action in six career games, completing 23 of 33 passes for 314 yards, four touchdowns and a QB rating of 139.4. Nall also spent time with the Buffalo Bills and with the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe.

Walker (5-11, 204) signed with the Texans as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 10 after forgoing his senior season at Notre Dame. He is the fourth all-time leading rusher in Notre Dame's storied history with 3,249 yards. Walker owns the school records for receptions by a running back in a season, with 56 in 2006, and in a career, with 109.

Walker led the Fighting Irish in rushing in each of his three seasons in South Bend and had the third-highest rushing average at 90.3 yards per game. He turned in 15 100-yard rushing performances and scored 26 career touchdowns—23 rushing and three receiving.

Walker rushed seven times for 42 yards in two preseason appearances for the Texans this year. He was waived on September 1 in the final round of roster cuts at training camp and was signed to the Texans practice squad on September 3, where he spent the first 11 weeks of the season.
