Texans sign Foley, Spearman

HOUSTON -The Houston Texans have made the following roster moves, it was announced today. The active roster is now set at 53.

The Texans signed two free agent linebackers, Steve Foley and Armegis (are-MEE-gus) Spearman.

Foley (6-3, 260) has played in 54 career games, starting 45 for the Cincinnati Bengals. After leading the nation in sacks (18.5) at Northeast Louisiana, Foley was drafted by the Bengals in the third round (75th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft. Entering his sixth NFL season, Foley has recorded 158 tackles (121 solo), 9.5 sacks and five forced fumbles. He spent the 2002 season on Injured Reserve after he dislocated his right shoulder during the preseason.

Spearman (6-2, 251) started 11 games during a breakout rookie season in 2000, where he finished with 71 tackles (47 solo) and one sack for the Bengals. He spent the 2001 season (torn pectoral muscle in 2001 preseason finale) and part of the 2002 season (high ankle sprain, 10-27-02) on Injured Reserve.

         To
         make room on the roster, the Houston Texans waived the following
         players: LB Erik Flowers (Arizona State), LB Jimmy McClain (Troy
         State), G Ed Ta'amu (Utah) and DT Keith Wright (Missouri -Practice
         Squad). The Texans also waived OT Garrick Jones (Arkansas State)
         yesterday and assigned him to the practice squad today.
