New to the Texans but not to Houston, the latest addition to the Texans linebacker corps began practice Monday morning. The Houston Texans signed inside linebacker Elliot Coffey to replace Evan Frierson who was waived/injured, meaning he will be placed on IR if another team does not claim him off waivers.
Coffey was signed by Denver as an undrafted free agent in 2012 but waived before the start of the season. The 6-foot, 235-pound, Sugar Land native graduated from Clements High School. He was a starting linebacker for Baylor for 22 games, playing 47 total. As a senior in 2011, Coffey led the team with 114 total tackles (55 solo), ranking fourth in the Big 12 with 8.8 tackles per game. Coffey's father, Ken, played safety for the Washington Redskins.
