Texans sign linebacker William Kershaw.
The Houston Texans have signed linebacker William Kershaw from the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad and waived defensive end Shantee Orr, it was announced today.
Kershaw (6-3, 240) was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as a college free agent on May 2, 2006 from the University of Maryland. He spent the first 16 weeks of the 2006 season on the Chiefs practice squad before being signed to the active roster for the last game of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in Kansas City's AFC Wild Card Game against the Indianapolis Colts where he led the Chiefs with three special teams tackles.
Kershaw, a Raeford, North Carolina native, spent the first week of the season with the Chiefs where he finished with one special teams tackle. He was waived on September 18 and signed with the Eagles' practice squad on October 30.
Kershaw finished his collegiate career at Maryland with 204 tackles over 42 games. He started the last 20 games of his college career. He ranked third on the team with 76 tackles as a senior.
Orr finished this season with three tackles. For his Texans career, he finished with 83 tackles and 10.5 sacks.
