HOUSTON – The Houston Texans signed free agent P Brad Maynard, the team announced today.
Maynard (6-1, 188) has appeared in 223 games, totaling 1,258 punts for 52,739 yards (41.9 avg.). He has notched 407 punts inside the 20-yard line, an average of 29 per year, along with 99 touchbacks and five fumble recoveries. He holds a career-long punt of 75 yards, which happened in 2002.
Last year, Maynard tallied 83 punts for 3,326 yards (40.1 avg.). He placed 24 punts inside the 20-yard line and registered five touchbacks. He also contributed a 53-yard kickoff, his first since 2004.
The 14-year veteran out of Ball State spent the first four years of his career with the New York Giants before spending the last 10 with the Chicago Bears. With the Giants, Maynard recorded 380 punts for 15,958 yards (42.0 avg.), including a career-high 111 punts his rookie season.
