The Texans have signed free agent tight end Michael Gaines (6-2, 271), a blocking specialist who started seven games for the Cleveland Browns last year.
Gaines, 30, has started 48 of 83 games in his six-year NFL career. He had five catches for 59 yards and a touchdown in 2009 and has career totals of 84 catches, 869 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
Gaines was a seventh-round draft pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2004 out of Central Florida. He spent three seasons in Carolina before stints with the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and Browns.
